Tips for Hiring an Accident Lawyer Because of possible situations such as statutes of limitations (which can vary by state), it’s important to hire a personal injury attorney and get the claims process going as quickly as possible; however, you don’t want to hire the first attorney for whom you see a billboard on the highway. Consider these tips as you look for the right accident lawyer. Personal Injury Focus Just as there are many different doctors who focus on many different areas of medicine, there is a wide range of lawyers from which to choose. As you choose your accident lawyer, make sure he or she focuses on personal injury accidents. NOTE: Some states’ State Bar websites have directories of attorneys organized by their areas of practice. Car Accident Experience Not all personal injury attorneys have experience with cases that deal with personal injury caused by a car accident. Some focus more on slip-and-fall accidents, others on work-related injuries, and others still on premise liability cases. Make sure the attorney you choose has represented individuals who’ve suffered personal injuries specifically related to car crashes. Attorney’s Reputation Perhaps nothing spreads reputation more powerfully than word of mouth, and in this day and age you can go beyond just talking to people about their own personal injury attorney experiences to actually researching these attorneys yourself. Simply hop online, search the attorneys’ names, and see what others have to say about him or her. Dedication to Your CaseHere, you’ll want to consider a couple of factors.First, take a look at the attorney’s current caseload. While it’s not impossible for a skilled lawyer to juggle multiple cases at one time (actually, it’s pretty normal), you probably don’t want to put your trust in the hands of an attorney whose focus is spread uncomfortably thin.Second, consider how the attorney treats you and your case. Sure, you probably won’t communicate every day, but does your lawyer regularly update you on your claim’s status? Make him- or herself available to answer your questions? Return your phone calls in a timely fashion?Comfort LevelFinally, evaluate your comfort level with the attorney. You can start gauging your comfort level from the beginning (for example, how do you feel about the attorney’s success rate with car accident cases?) and continue beyond the time you hire him or her.Sometimes, evaluating your comfort level can prevent you from hiring a personal injury attorney who isn’t well suited for your case; other times, it might convince you it’s time to change course with a new attorney.Just remember, you suffered personal injury and monetary loss due to a car crash you believe someone else caused. Use these tips—and trust your gut—as you search for the right accident lawyer.

An automobile accident brings with it a host of questions. Who is at fault? Who pays for damage to my car? Who will pay for my medical bills? Should I be compensated for pain and suffering? Can I ask the insurance company to reimburse me for lost wages? An experienced injury attorney can be extremely helpful in negotiating the often chaotic and confusing world of insurance claims and settlements. Because most injury attorneys work on a contingent-fee basis, and only get paid if there is a successful resolution to your claim, there is often little incentive to try to handle these types of claims on your own – especially when significant injuries are involved. Knowledge of Law and Procedural Rules Hiring a personal injury attorney to represent you after a car accident means you will have a professional working for you — one who is extremely knowledgeable about the relevant laws and procedural rules that may affect your case. An attorney can advise you of any time limits (called statutes of limitations) that can bar you from filing a lawsuit against the at-fault driver. For instance, in many states you must file your lawsuit within two years of your car accident or be forever prohibited from filing your lawsuit. An attorney will also be able to inform you about any special exceptions to the statute of limitations — for minors, for example. Your attorney can file a lawsuit on your behalf and will know how best to mitigate any possible defenses raised by the other side. In addition, once your case gets under way, your lawyer will play an invaluable role in preparing your case for trial — and even going to trial if your case doesn’t settle. Even though a lawsuit is rarely necessary, the threat of legal action offers strong leverage when negotiating a fair settlement. Finally, and perhaps most importantly, having an attorney who is knowledgeable about the law evens the playing field, especially when you are going up against the experience and vast resources of a large insurance company. Lawyers Do The Legwork There is a lot of work that goes into negotiating an insurance settlement and trying a personal injury lawsuit. After you have been in a car accident, taking on this time-consuming work may be the last thing you want to do, assuming you’re able. An attorney can do it all for you. Whereas this may be your first time dealing with the ins and outs of an accident claim, injury attorneys have dealt with all manner of claims and a variety of insurance companies. They have experience obtaining the necessary evidence to support your claim, including gathering police reports, witness statements, medical records and bills, and employment and lost wage information. Your attorney will also be able to organize the evidence and prepare a settlement demand letter for the insurance company. If you are unable to settle your accident case, your attorney can take care of filing the necessary paperwork to start a court case and can deal with the defense attorneys on your behalf. Having someone knowledgeable handling the hard work of your case eases the burden on you, which is especially important if you have been seriously injured and are trying to recover from your injuries. An Attorney Advocates for You Perhaps the most important way an attorney can help you with your car accident case is by being your advocate. This means that your attorney acts on your behalf and for your benefit throughout the entire claims process (negotiating with the automobile insurance company) and even in court if a lawsuit becomes necessary. He or she will be your champion before the judge, jury and other attorneys, making sure that your side of the story is heard and that you are compensated for all of your losses. Having an experienced and articulate advocate working for you is essential in obtaining a reasonable and fair resolution in your car accident case. Share on Google Plus Share on Facebook

Cons: The Alamo counter, in Salt Lake, was poorly staffed. It took an hour to obtain the rental car. There was no verification of damage to the vehicle prior to releasing the car and upon returning, I was questioned about peripheral damage to the car which was obviously there prior to my rental period. I have rented from Alamo many, many times, and have never received such poor customer service.

Cons: Where to start. The inside of the windshield and the inside of the back window were dirty. I didn’t realize this until the sun shone on the windshield and visibility was poor due to the dirt. This was a safety hazard until I cleaned the glass myself. The tires were worn. The serviceman at a tire place I went to (due to low tire pressure) pointed the wear out and asked how long I’d have to drive the car. Finally, when I returned the car, I found out that company policy is that the cars not be driven in Montana because their insurance does not apply in Montana. In other words, had I bought the insurance and had had a wreck in Montana, I would not have been covered. I was told at check-in, that there’s a sign inside the rental building stating that the cars are not to be driven in Montana, but I didn’t see it, nor did the rental agent mention this little detail. I see no mention of this policy on the webpage where I booked the car, either. Imagine making the car reservation for your Montana vacation and finding out on arrival at the agency that you’re not supposed to drive in Montana!! Never again.

Cons: Extremely slow check-in. The price quoted online was significantly ($20 per day) cheaper then what the counter said I had to pay. Despite showing them the quoted rate, they would not agree to it. They did not have a car ready in the category I booked. Once they found one that was ready, it was unclean and extremely smoky. It took another hour for them to find a similar sized rental. When I wanted to extend the rental an extra two days, the counter would not let me. Eventually, after being on hold for another 30 mins, I was able to extend the rental. All-in-all I would not use Budget again.

Cons: pick up was away from the airport. shuttle was available to and from airport. however, when returning car my gps located the car return at the airport. i spent too much time finding the car rental. a 200.00 deposit was required. representative was very pushy on buying insurance, upgrading to larger car(suv) due to snowstorm coming and was very vocal about buying their gas program. the time in checking out car due to these conversations was too long.

By the 1970s, Detroit’s image had been completely transformed from the mighty engine of American capitalism to the embodiment of America’s urban woes. The auto industry, buffeted by the oil crisis during the Nixon and Carter administrations, continued to contract. The rise of international competition, especially from Japan and Germany, further weakened Detroit’s auto industry. Chrysler, the smallest of the “Big Three,” filed for bankruptcy in 1979, while Ford and General Motors struggled with reputations for producing gas-guzzling behemoths and faced serious deficits. Although the fortunes of the auto industry eventually rose again, especially during the economic boom of the 1990s and the growth in popularity of sport-utility vehicles, the Big Three would continue to struggle for market share in an economy increasingly dominated by overseas manufacturers. Detroit, already weakened by decades of disinvestment and depopulation, fared badly. The Motor City was nearly completely abandoned by whites (who today comprise just a little over 10 percent of the city’s population). Metropolitan Detroit is still home to the Big Three headquarters, but the city’s population has plummeted to 886,000; its job base continues to shrink; and its skyline is now dominated by the rotting hulks of old factory buildings. At the beginning of the twenty-first century, boomtown Detroit is a distant memory, visible only in the old factory buildings and rubble-strewn lots that were once magnets of opportunity. A fitting symbol of Detroit’s transitory industrial might is Ford’s Highland Park plant—home to the first assembly line—now empty and deserted, a stark monument to the city’s history as the cradle of the modern American consumer culture.

There was no indication that Detroit would come to dominate car making in the industry’s early years. According to economist Steven Klepper of Carnegie Mellon University, none of the 69 companies that entered the auto industry (PDF) between 1895 and 1900 was located in Detroit. Olds Motor Works became the city’s first major carmaker when it relocated from Lansing in 1900. Ransom Olds then made a decision that would shape the course of the industry—rather than creating hundreds of small components in-house for his Curved Dash Runabout, he subcontracted much of the work to companies in Detroit’s flourishing manufacturing sector. The people who built the car’s parts eventually learned so much about automotive manufacturing that they went on to launch their own brands. Olds’ subcontractors included the Briscoe brothers, who helped build Buick, and machinist Henry Leland, who created Cadillac and Lincoln. The Dodge brothers also cut their teeth making parts for both Olds and Henry Ford. Ransom Olds, himself, eventually left Olds Motor Works to found the REO car company. A few other executives from Olds founded Chalmers and Hudson. William Durant, the man behind General Motors, was twice forced out of the company, forming Chevrolet and later Durant Motors while he was away. All of these ventures were based in or near Detroit.

Administration was brutal,” recalls engineer Steve Fitter. “The place was deserted. People’s desks were left how they were. It was like the Mary Celeste.” Fitter is remembering the dark days of October 2012, when the London Taxi Company, one of the last auto makers in Coventry, almost went out of business. LTC was saved by Chinese car giant Geely, owner of Volvo, which last month opened a new plant in Ansty, north Coventry – the first new car factory in the UK since 2003, and the only one wholly dedicated to electric vehicles. The new TX5 electric cab will hit London’s streets at the end of the year. “Geely buying LTC was a relief,” says Fitter. “Since then there’s been a phenomenal change in mindset, culture, training.” The taxi company’s rebirth is symbolic of a wider motoring renaissance in Coventry, which has a population of 345,000. Once home to dozens of famous names, from Triumph and Daimler to Rootes and Peugeot, most of its manufacturing has fallen away. So how is Coventry laying claim to its name as a motor city?

Paul Walker’s father, Paul Walker III, has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Porsche, almost two years to the day of the Fast & Furious actor’s fatal car crash. On Nov. 30, 2013, the 40-year-old star was riding in a 2005 Porsche Carrera GT driven by friend Roger Rodas, 38, north of Los Angeles when the vehicle spun out of control, slammed into a tree and caught fire, killing them both.Paul Walker III filed a negligence and wrongful death lawsuit against Porsche at a Los Angeles court just before the Thanksgiving holiday. The company has not responded to his filing. The actor’s dad, who is the executor of his son’s estate, says in his filing, obtained by E! News, that the car the actor rode in “lacked safety features that are found on well-designed racing cars or even Porsche’s least-expensive road cars—features that could have prevented the accident, or, at a minimum, allowed Paul Walker to survive the crash.”

Porsche Accused of Hiding 'Damaging Evidence' on Car Used by Paul Walker in Fatal CrashBy Trace William CowenFeb 16, 2017ShareTweetPorsche has been accused of engineering a “cover-up” after a lawsuit was filed by Paul Walker's daughter, according to court documents obtained by the New York Daily News. Paperwork filed earlier this week shows that Meadow Walker alleged Porsche Cars of North America had “improperly redacted” information from emails and other documents. Those documents, the Daily News said, were at the center of Meadow's wrongful death claim. After switching computers, Meadow's attorney learned that Porsche had allegedly been attempting to conceal a discussion regarding the number of totaled Carrera GT vehicles (200 out of 1,280) during the model's first two years of production. Specifically, one alleged email from an unnamed Porsche manager stated that crashes were “great news” for owners as the GT would now become “more rare.”Meadow's attorney, Jeffrey L. Milam, told the Wrap in a statement that the newly discovered documents show that Porsche was aware of the dangers of the GT. “We have learned that Porsche has hidden damaging evidence it knew its Carrera GT—the car that killed Paul Walker—was dangerous and unsafe,” Milam said. “Porsche concealed this information from the public to protect its image and brand.” The filing says this alleged “misconduct” should warrant a default judgment and $52,732 in sanctions. In April 2016, a California court ruled in a separate suit that Porsche was “not to blame” for the 2013 crash that took the life of Walker and Roger Rodas. “Plaintiff has provided no competent evidence that Rodas's death occurred as a result of any wrongdoing on the part of defendant,” U.S. district judge Philip S. Gutierrez wrote in a judgment at the time, the Guardian reported.

More importantly, what I had done was really fucking dangerous. Had the track layout been different; had it been a cold morning in Daytona, or Wisconsin, rather than Nevada, I may have hit a wall at 100 mph rather than some gravel at 20.Fast forward a year. In November of 2013, Paul Walker and Roger Rodas were hanging out at an open house and car show in front of the business they owned together, Always Evolving. I had the pleasure of both their company on several occasions; though we weren’t close, both Roger and Paul were always a pleasure to be around, especially at the track, where they spent a lot of time. Both were excellent drivers and upstanding citizens. Neither of them would live to see the end of the day.Roger, an avid car collector with more than 50 cars to his name—including what I believe is the largest collection of Saleen cars in the world—had just bought himself a Porsche Carrera GT out of a long-term collection. The red-over-black Carrera GT was the right color combo and had a famous owner in its history: Graham Rahal. It also had only 3,500 miles on the odometer, making for a highly desirable example. He had just taken delivery of the car that week. Paul, as big of a gearhead as he was, had never been in a Carrera GT before. It was a Sunday, so the large office park was all-but-deserted save for AE’s small section of parking lot.“Just once around the block.”Once around the block was all it took to kill them both. The 3,500 mile Carrera GT was shod with its original tires. They, like the car attached to them, were 9 years old.Roger lost control of the Carrera GT at an estimated 90 mph, and hit a tree. The mainstream media, and indeed many automotive-focused web sites, simply couldn’t wait to report on the irony of the situation, that someone known for playing a character who drives crazy is killed in a supercar doing double the speed limit in an office park.I was distraught the first couple of days, but honestly, all I could think about was how the crash happened, and I just kept going back to that day at Spring Mountain. This was a super low-mileage car. Roger was a really good driver. There were no other cars around or last-minute obstacles to avoid. It had to have been on original tires. No one talked about the tires. Everyone wanted to hang Paul and Roger out to dry as their speeding scapegoats. The tires were a footnote to an exaggerated story, and it became a missed opportunity to teach a very real lesson. The LA Times reported one article on it nearly 5 months after the crash, and that was it. The cause of the crash was still ruled “unsafe speed for the conditions.” And not “tires, which may as well have been made of paper mache.”

Your tires are the most important part of your car. They can make you faster, they can save your life, or they can get you killed, even if you’re the star of a major car-centric action franchise, and even if you aren’t driving. (Spoiler alert: the driver dies too).Considering how important tires are, they aren’t given nearly enough credit in the media or in car-guy circles. Sure, every racer talks about tires, and a lot of canyon warriors will sit on top of the snake talking setup, but on the internet and in casual conversation with casual enthusiasts, tires are a dull topic. You certainly can’t brag about them on a forum the way you can with your upgraded turbo and fresh dyno chart. You have to go into the Grassroots Motorsports catalog, or to a very specific sub-genre to see a tire comparison test for your desired application, so most people just end up reading reviews on TireRack.Tires are a dull topic even when we’re actively shopping for tires. They have insanely complicated naming schemes like GoodRubber GoodGripper Pro XGV25, which makes them even harder to discuss than Infiniti’s current lineup. In all seriousness, I have a set of tires on my Mustang at the moment called “Continental ContiForce Contact.” That’s a real name under which a real set of tires is marketed. Most people don’t have the luxury of actually testing tires before they buy either, making decisions based on either anecdotal evidence, a roll of the dice, budget, or a combination of the three.Nevertheless, the four small patches of rubber connecting your two-ton manslaughter machine to your city’s lowest-priced asphalt are, if you ask me, the best way to improve your car, or, the quickest way to fuck it up, crash, and even die. Even if you should know better. And I’m going to give you one piece of advice—advice I learned the hard way, but not as hard as my friends Paul Walker—who would have celebrated his 43rd birthday this week—and Roger Rodas did.In November of 2012, I entered my modified C5 Corvette in the “Optima Batteries Ultimate Street Car Invitational,” a multi-discipline driving event held the day after SEMA ends in Las Vegas.I could not have been less prepared for this event if I had left the car’s targa roof at home in the garage—which, by the way, I did. Think it never rains in Vegas? Never snows? Go there in a car without a roof. I guarantee both will happen.Though the car was in mostly good nick, with around 25,000 miles on it. The engine makes 400 horsepower to the wheels with some mild bolt-on upgrades, and it has a Stoptech Big Brake kit, Pfadt coilover suspension, racing seats, harnesses, and more. All of it worked.

Oh, don’t worry too much about making a car design that is aerodynamic or fall into the trap of the ultimate car or the fastest pinewood derby car design. Pinewood Derby cars are not going fast enough, nor long enough for aerodynamics to affect speed in any way. It is far more important to have fun designing a cool car that you can call your own.

The heaver your pinewood derby car is, the faster it will go so you want your car to weigh right up to the 5 oz limit. You can use just about any metal object for weights. We sell a variety of weights designed to be used for Pinewood Derby cars. You can glue the weights to the outside of the car or drill holes and insert the weights inside the car. It is best to add the weights near the back of the car for an extra speed boost. The height of the weight will not make a difference to your car’s speed. If you drill holes in the car for weights, you can use wood putty to seal the holes. Wood putty will require several hours to dry. If you are in a hurry, you can use a hot glue gun or super glue.

Examples of weights for pinewood derby cars You can put weights under your car as long as there is still at least 3/8″ clearance between the bottom of the weight and the track. If you don’t have an accurate scale, you can take your car to the post office and use the scale there. If you plan on gluing parts to you car, be sure to weigh the parts with the car. If you do not have a kit or if you do not want to cut the block, we have several varieties of pre cut blocks, an assortment of prepared wheels and polished axles that are legal in all pinewood derby races and can save you time in the building process. You will need one block, four axles and four wheels as a minimum to build a car.

When you are done, ask your son or daughter to give their pinewood derby car an awesome knickname. Coming up with knicknames is fun and it is another way that they can personalize their car to make it their own. My son knicknamed his cars Tiger Claw, Neon Demon, Golden Retriever, and Silver Streak.

This will be my 3rd year ordering from you. This year I have an 8 year old son, a ten year old son, and my 12 year old daughter’s young women group is also doing the pinewood derby. We are still undefeated – Last year we purchased your wheels and axles and won 1st place again, 2 years running! – Kirk from UT
images of pinewood derby cars 11

Mount each wheel on one of the axles that you prepared in the above step then spin the wheel. Reject it if the wheel noticeably wobbles from side to side or if it only spins for a few seconds. Roll each wheel on a flat, dry, clean surface. The wheel should roll in a straight line and not wobble. Reject any that follow a curved path or that wobble. You can make the wheels faster by sanding the tread area to remove high marks and other imperfections and by removing the step from the outer hub (removing the hub step may be illegal in some pinewood derby races). We have wheels with these modifications already made to them. See our wheels or you can do it yourself with our tools. Remove the step from the outer hub with the Pro Hub Shaver. Sand the wheel tread with the Pro Wheel Mandrel. Polish the wheel hub bore with the Pro Bore Polisher and wax the hub bore with the Pro Bore Wax.
images of pinewood derby cars 12

You are now ready to add wheels and axles to your pinewood derby car. First, you should lubricate the car and wheels with graphite. First we want to reduce the friction between the wheel hub and the car block. Sand the area around each axle slot with 400 to 1000 grit sand paper until smooth. Pour a small amount of graphite on a clean sheet of paper. Grind the end of a pencil eraser in the graphite (you can also use a Q-tip). Then apply the graphite to the car body by grinding the eraser into the area around each axle slot as show above. Add until the area is saturated with graphite. Next are the wheels. Add more graphite to the sheet of paper if needed then rub the wheel hub into the graphite until you have a shiny ring of graphite around the wheel hub. Rub the Q-tip in the graphite then rub on the wheel outer bore until the area around the bore is shiny. Next you want to work as much graphite into the wheel bore as possible. 1. Clean the wheel bore (hole). Run a clean pipe cleaner through the hole several times. Do this for each wheel. When done, Sprinkle some graphite on the pipe cleaner and run it through each wheel several times adding graphite often. 2. Stack the wheels on top of each other. 3. Plug the bottom wheel hole with your finger then pour a few puffs of graphite into the top hole. 4. Plug the top wheel hole with your thumb then sake the wheels several times. 5. Pour any loose graphite out of the wheel holes. 6. Insert an axle part way into a wheel. Pour a few puffs of graphite into the other end of the wheel. Slowly push the axle up through the hole while shaking and turning the wheel to work as much graphite as possible between the wheel and axle. 7. After the axle has been pushed all the way through the wheel, work more graphite between the wheel and axle by pouring more graphite between the wheel and axle, moving the axle up and down and spinning and taping the wheel. Mount the wheels on the car. The axles should be inserted as high in the slot as possible and should go straight in perpendicular to the block. Push the axle in until there is a credit card thickness gap between the wheel and block. Install the axles the right way with our Axle Installer. When all four wheels are on the car, push the car forward on a flat surface. It should roll within two inches of straight for a three foot run. If the car doesn’t roll straight, one of the wheels is pulling the car to the side. Remove one of the front wheels. Roll the car again. If it rolls straight then you know that the removed wheel is causing the problem.
