Realistic Car Games

No. It doesn’t and they don’t. All of Gran Turismo’s “physics” are mostly tricks to make you THINK they are realistic. The actual calculations are very limited compared to games like iRacing or GTR2.I remember when Gran Turismo 4 first came out and introduced visual body roll. Compared to GT3, it was a massive step forward for recreating a more “realistic” performing car game, but it was just an aesthetic difference. PC sims will always trump console games when it comes to actual realistic physics, because there is no processing limitations on PC.And are you, TC, looking for racing or driving? Because the two are different and unfortunately, driving is not as well fleshed-out as racing is in the sim game area. The most realistic racing games have already been mentioned, but for driving, personally out of those I’ve played, Driver: San Francisco is one of the only recent games I can think of that actually tries to make it more down-to-Earth while still offering some over-the-top action as well. Not sure it’s compatibility with wheels mind you.

Driving games have been popular for decades now, going all the way back to Atari’s “Space Race” in the 1970s, but it has been only recently that they have become so very realistic. It has actually become hard to distinguish in-game footage from real world images, especially with all the details that are put into cars. Driving games, especially simulators, are amazing for their complexity, details and just how different various cars feel. The following list features the top 10 realistic driving games of the last 10 years.

You could also look at Assetto Corsa. The games you mentioned are arcade sims as are most racing games that come out it seems. Of those you mentioned I’d put Project Cars at the front of the pack followed by Forza or DriveClub. I haven’t played Dirt Rally, but past Dirt games felt like good, casual racing fun.

Fuck me, at this rate I’m gonna have to find a real car for all my masturbation needs. He does kinda have a point, though: a lot of realistic racing games are as much about flashy, sometimes obnoxious car culture as they are cars. I feel like Forza Horizon 2 takes that to an almost ridiculous extreme with its impossible dream vacation car heaven populated largely by insufferable douchebags. So maybe a return to simpler times is needed. Something a bit more gritty, a lot less glamorous.

My Summer Car is a game about chugging beer and tinkering obsessively with a beat-up old sports car. It is, according to its creator, the most realistic car game ever.

The game was initially released in 2008 by iRacing.com Motorsport Simulations for Windows, OSX and Linux. iRacing has found popularity with a number real-world race drivers, as well as gamers, especially because of its extremely realistic handling. Laser mapping recreates real tracks, down to the last bump. Before you can play with the big boys, a four-week rookie session is a must. After that, you can enjoy four 12-week “seasons” per year and compete in tournaments and championships.

Gonna jump on the Gran Turismo 6 answer. That’s always sort of been that franchise’s schtick, trying to be realistic racing. I remember it being fun, but I’m more of a Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing Transformed kind of person, so I might not know of a better one if it exists.

The graphics are stunningly good. The cars and environments are very realistic, and the studio really went that extra mile to achieve good lighting effects and reflections on cars. The latest version features more than 1200 cars, with 120 of them being a new addition to the GT6 universe. Choose one of the 33 available locations and enjoy the race. New events can be unlocked by completing various tasks within the game. Some cars are hard to get, as they are expensive or require a lot of hard work, but they can also be purchased via an in-game shop.

At the time it was warmly received by critics too, receiving praise for its cutting-edge graphics and realism. By today’s standards it looks hilariously antiquated, but since then developers have continued to work hard to build increasingly realistic driving simulations.
