The chart below shows the likelihood, or odds, of dying as a result of a specific type of accident. The odds of dying over a one-year period are based on the U.S. population as a whole, not on participants in any particular activity or on how dangerous that activity may be. For example, more people are killed in auto accidents than in motorcycle accidents or airplane crashes, not because riding a motorcycle or traveling in an airplane is more or less dangerous, but because far more people travel by car. Drug poisoning is the leading cause of injury death in the United States. The lifetime chances of dying from a drug or medication overdose were one in 96 in 2014, compared with about 1 in 645 in a car accident and 1 in 161,856 for fatal injuries caused by lightning.

“Motor vehicle traffic” deaths in the U.S. in 2013, the most recent full year of data available, totaled 33,804, for a death rate of 10.7 per 100,000, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Considering deaths in the U.S. that year totaled slightly less than 2.6 million, the individual American's chances of dying as a result of an automobile crash (which include pedestrians, bicyclists and motorcyclists involved in car crashes) come out to about 1 in 77 — making it one of the highest-probability causes of death tracked by the CDC.

So, we put together the Odds of Dying chart below. (Here’s another way to look at it.) Keep in mind these odds are statistical averages over the entire U.S. population and do not necessarily reflect the chances of death for a particular person from a particular external cause. Odds of dying are affected by an individual’s activities, occupation, and where he or she lives and drives, among other things.

Interestingly, the number of vehicles per crash doesn’t appear to bear significant correlation to how many people die in each crash. Presumably, that number is more dependent on other factors (weather, intoxication, time of day), than it is on the violence of the collision itself.

Other health conditions also took a toll. Influenza and pneumonia (the two conditions are lumped together in CDC statistics) killed about 17 per 100,000 people in the United States, or about 55,000 people in total. Of those, about 23,700 were people age 85 or older, and 186 were infants younger than 1 year old. But many cases of flu can be prevented through vaccination. The 2014 flu shot decreased people's chances of getting the flu by only 19 percent, but the vaccines developed between 2012 and 2013 decreased their chances by 56 percent, Live Science found.

You may think that traveling by plane is inherently more dangerous than driving an automobile. After all, an air crash is catastrophic, with more loss of life, injury and property damage than a car accident. A few U.S. government statistics can shed light on this question.

1. Outta nowhere Let’s kick things off with this short, fast-paced and eye-catching GTA 5 crash compilation. ALL OF THE CRASHES. We particularly like the “WTF” element of the crash at 1m6s. 2. Extra damage How about this brilliant set of GTA 5 smashes with the crash deformation mod, which adds that extra level of detail and drama to the shunts. 3. Something a bit different Let’s mix things up a little with this cool plane crash compilation from GTA 5, because those are just as fun and spectacular. 4. Totally destroyed Watching this GTA 5 gamer completely destroy his Ocelot Jackal in a series of crashes, while trying to escape the police, is pretty satisfying. Even more so by the fact they manage to avoid their car exploding, despite getting rid of almost every single body panel. Props to them! 5. That sound effect tho The sound effect whenever a driver is ejected from their car in this video compilation of brutal GTA 5 crashes is just way too funny. It does, however, show this player probably isn’t the best at driving in the game. 6. Monster shunts Some of these crashes are absolutely insane. From multiple flips to hilarious airborne shunts, there’s something for everyone in this video… 7. Brutal bike smashes Surely crashing on a motorcycle or bike is the most brutal and scary way to crash in GTA 5? There’s nothing to protect your character, and nowhere for them to go except flying off into the distance (or the side of a house). 8. Driving flat out So, this is what happens when you just drive flat out in GTA 5 and see what happens. Basically, you crash. You crash, a lot. And it looks damn incredible. 9. Jump! Yeah, sometimes jumping out of the car while it’s crashing or just before doesn’t help that much. Nevertheless, it makes things even more exciting to watch for us viewers. So, we’re definitely nor complaining. 10. Huge pile-up Who doesn’t love a good GTA 5 motorway pile-up? Drivers just keep on speeding into the crash scene and getting caught up on it. Perhaps a mod was involved. But, however the video was made, it looks absolutely insane and complete chaos. Classic GTA 5. What awesome GTA 5 crash/fail videos have you seen? Released nearly two years ago, Grand Theft Auto V continues to surprise and impress. The latest example is this new video in which a car crash, as Ron Burgundy might say, escalates quickly. What starts as a simple bike wreck becomes a pileup for the ages in no time at all. The first-person perspective really sells the drama, too. Take a look at the video below and let us know what you think.GTA V was originally released in September 2013 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, before coming to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in 2014 and PC in 2015. Though Rockstar Games has regularly supported the action game with new content for GTA Online, fans are still waiting for the promised single-player expansion.Overall, GTA V has shipped more than 52 million copies. Parent publisher Take-Two Interactive may announce a new number later today when the company reports earnings for the latest quarter. Via: Kotaku

I’ve always gone looking for trouble in GTA games. When Grand Theft Auto III first came out, my friends and I would get together and take turns going on rampages—competing to see who could survive the longest against the cops. With the new version of GTA V out, I’ve found another way to test myself: by going in search of the biggest and baddest car crashes I could cause in Los Santos.
gta 5 car crashes 4

The most upsetting car crashes for me are the ones that take me completely off-guard, like my family’s did. Those rarely ever happen in GTA V, though. Michael and Trevor might pound their fists on the steering wheel and curse out other drivers when they run into each other. But doing so is darkly ironic comedy. We all know who really caused the scene. All the non-human drivers in GTA are remarkably well-behaved in comparison to the monster the player becomes when they get behind the wheel.
gta 5 car crashes 5

Now you can experience everything unfolding inside GTA as if you were doing it yourself. And the game really allows for everything. Save for a few isolated activities like yoga and Trevor’s notorious torture sequence that are only available in a third-person mode, you can indulge in practically any GTA V behavior from a first-person vantage point: you can shoot an assault rifle, take a hit from a bong, have sex with a prostitute, and—of course—drive a car.
gta 5 car crashes 6

Even then, though, the game made my family’s car accident come rushing back into my present-day mind. Having played many GTA games, and GTA V specifically, I didn’t expect this to happen.
gta 5 car crashes 7

Playing GTA V, I’ve begun to notice the limits to GTA’s realism. Your character doesn’t suffer a physical handicap when using a phone while driving, for instance. Even after careening through the air and landing upside-down, cars always seem to right themselves so you can continue on your way. And then there’s the whole matter of never truly suffering from a car crash for any longer than the time it takes the game to reload and drop you outside of a hospital with a little less money in your pocket.

The memory started to show itself in small ways. An uncomfortable tic, a short gasp when I’d ram into a passing car. Seeing the hood fly up after a head-on collision and having it block my vision was enough to give me pause. The palpable thuds and shrill metallic screams of passing fender-benders left me depleted of energy, as if I’d made it through some thrilling high-speed chase. Shattering glass brought the clearest image by far. The way the game’s windshields break, cracking ever so slightly for a fraction of a second before bursting apart completely, rung a little too true to real life. Windshields in GTA V don’t just disappear when they’ve been broken. They implode, vomiting glass inward. It’s a stunningly detailed animation. The first few times I saw it, I caught myself trying to inch the camera down towards the seat of the car to see if the game had left a sea of tiny jewels in my character’s lap too.
gta 5 car crashes 12

A few days after I started playing GTA V again, I pulled onto the highway. “Let’s try something out,” I thought to myself, “just to see how it goes.” I pulled the right trigger on my controller all the way down, putting Franklin’s foot to the floor. The car picked up speed. I whipped past other drivers, hearing a slight whoosh every time I came too close to one. My hands were trembling, and I was breathing unevenly. I noticed that I’d lost precise control of my vehicle; the car wavered precariously as it zoomed down the road. I didn’t let myself stop. Once I’d gained enough momentum to see that I wasn’t going to be able to move any faster, I glanced across the road to examine the incoming traffic. I inhaled deeply, and turned straight into it.
gta 5 car crashes 13

When you drive in shooters like Far Cry 4, Destiny, Halo, or Battlefield, it doesn’t feel like you’re a person who’s actually inside of a car. You move far too gracefully for that to be the case. It’s as if you’ve merged with the vehicle to become some self-contained cyborg. Or you’re floating slightly above it. Your physical presence inside the vehicle is pretty much guaranteed, too—once you sit down, nothing’s going to kick you out as forcefully as GTA V’s windshield dive. For all their aesthetic and thematic differences games like those still come closer to emulating the experience of racing in Mario Kart than anything genuinely realistic.

All-electric racing series Formula E is getting a facelift in its fifth season, which starts in late 2018. While we’ve already seen a few fanciful ideas, a new set of concept images has been released by Spark Racing Technologies — the company that will actually be building the second-generation Formula E cars — and they look incredible. Spark, which created the car that the series runs now, published the images over the weekend. The French company promises improved aerodynamics, a reduction in weight, and more efficient use of the battery. Spark says those features will all make the cars faster, too, so the company is also touting improved driver safety. We can see two takes on this in the renderings — three of them show an entirely closed cockpit, while the side-view image shows a windscreen similar to the one Formula One has tested. Faster, safer, and a much more futuristic look These concept images are reportedly just a ballpark of what the final season five car will look like, according to Motorsport.com. Spark still has work to do with its chassis manufacturing partner Dallara, and Motorsport says the final car “will be quite different.” Formula E teams have also reportedly been shown other versions of the concept that are an “even more radical depiction” of what the cars will look like. Spark’s current concept is already pretty radical, with its giant front wing and wild aerodynamic look. But it’s not terribly surprising that the final car could look even more extreme considering the FIA — the governing body of Formula E — originally asked the companies competing for the chassis contract to model their proposals after famous concept cars like the Red Bull X2010, the Ferrari F1 Concept, or McLaren’s MP4-X — all of which are outrageous in their own right. The fifth season is going to be crucial for the young series, and not only because the cars will look crazy. McLaren, Sony, and Atieva (the battery technology arm of Lucid Motors) are working on a new battery pack for the cars that will last the entire race, removing the need for drivers to swap cars in the middle of the contest — one of the common complaints about the current product. Season five is also when Mercedes-Benz (and other manufacturers) could be joining the series, adding to the roster of Jaguar, Renault, Audi, BMW, and startups like NextEV and Faraday Future. “While this remains a work in progress, we are encouraged with where the development of the 2018 car stands,” IndyCar president of competition and operations Jay Frye said in a news release. “The look of the car is bold, the performance data from simulations is meeting targeted goals and safety enhancements built into the design will be substantial.”

The initial concepts, which outline the bodywork that will cover the Dallara IR-12 chassis, were revealed in January at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The biggest change will be that the new car’s downforce will originate from the undercarriage instead of the wings on top, many of which will disappear. This change is designed not only to make the car look sleeker and sexier, but also to generate more passing, as drivers will have less turbulence to deal with when closing on other cars.

Let me start by saying that I hate car games.  They’re terrible, stupid, and you should never play them. Admittedly, I’m a bit biased from the unfortunate convergence of nearsightedness and slow reaction time in my youth which rendered me more or less the equivalent of one of those inflatable clown punching bags that can’t stay down during any game of “slug-bug.”  Regardless, it doesn’t change the fact that car games are lame, bad, and painful (and did I mention, stupid?).  Honestly, you should move on to another article.
adult car games 2

While the traditional road trip games, like the alphabet game and the license plate game, can be good for the whole family, we plan to entertain ourselves in a more adult fashion. After a few celebratory Jell-o shots before embarking—don’t worry, none for the driver—we’ll look to some of these road trip games for adults to keep ourselves occupied.
adult car games 3

I think we all have a good time playing games like Cards Against Humanity, but it’s hard to play in a cramped car while one of us is responsible for keeping the rest of us alive. So, play a few games that will have you laughing, and let you keep your eyes on the road (and yeah, take lots of selfies).
adult car games 4

My friend Sammy plays this game when he rides in cars.  Actually, my friend Sammy plays this game when we are walking down the street, through a mall, on the beach, in a restaurant– pretty much wherever we are.  We can’t stop him from playing it.  We’ve tried, and he just gets moody (and flatulent, which really isn’t good for anyone).  I’m not really sure that this is a game as much as a plaintive expression of latent sexual frustration, but it goes like this.  You’re in a car with your friend.  You see a person of the opposite sex.  You point to said person and say “Would Ya’?”  You then give a “thumbs-up” or “thumbs-down.”  That’s it.  Stupid.  Pointless.  Juvenile.  But then again, if you are an adult playing a car game, perfect.
adult car games 5

When I was a kid, there were few things better than getting to spend a few uninterrupted hours playing Pokemon on my Gameboy, grooving to the latest NOW! CD, or playing tiny board games with my sister. But now, most of us spend our car trips either driving, or glued to our phones the whole time. That’s perfectly fine — we all know how important car selfies are. But isn’t taking a holiday road trip with your friends also an opportunity to, I don’t know, actually talk to your friends?
adult car games 6

Fear not. Whether you’re an adult, a kid or somewhere in between, we’ve got five road trip games that will make the hours sail by. First up, rediscover an old classic: Slug Bug.
adult car games 7

Everyone needs some Jell-O shots if they will be passengers on a long, boring road trip. They are the perfect compliment to some good, old-fashioned adult road trip games.
adult car games 8

Before tablets and podcasts, we used games to keep us entertained. For your next road trip, try some of these games to keep you going along the way.
adult car games 9

Everyone in the car has to choose an unusual color for a car (purple, yellow, mint green, etc.), and you get points for every car of that color you see. You could also make the game interesting by allowing passengers to steal points if they spot another passenger’s color first. Or, you know, you could hit each other every time you see your color, because adulthood.
adult car games 10

I owe this game to a friend from middle/high school, and she in turn owes it to her grandmother. I’ve heard other people play variations of this, but the original one I learned is absolutely the best. The car is divided down the middle. If you’re sitting on the left (driver) side of the car, you’re on a team together, and if you’re sitting on the right (passenger) side, you’re on a team together. During your trip, watch out your windows for cows to count; each cow you spot gets you a point, but you can only count cows on your side of the car.
adult car games 11

No matter how good the tunes or the scenery, every car journey is significantly improved by a solid rotation of driving games. By now, you’ve spied all there is to spy, and asked about a million more questions than 20, so up your game game with these eight — all suitable for people old enough to hold a license. Is that Jennifer Lawrence at the stoplight? Eh… probably not.
adult car games 12

If that headlight is burnt out, you’ve got yourself a Padiddle Padiddle This is another fun game to play at night (much like the Polar Plunge game). Whenever you spot a car with a headlight out, you must quickly slap the ceiling of the car. The last person to do so must remove an article of clothing. The game may seem a little childish, but with really competitive (or attractive) friends, it gets to be very interesting.
adult car games 13

Decide on a common word that will be off limits for the duration of the car trip. It doesn’t have to be a swear word, just a common word that everyone will use at least once during normal conversation. Try words like bathroom, cow, phone, etc. to try and trip people up. You can use real money, or have the offending passenger write their name on a scrap of paper and put it in the jar. The person with the most money or names in the jar has to buy the car a round of drinks at your destination, fill up the gas tank, or do something else of your choosing.
adult car games 14

Pick another car on the road, preferably one with a few passengers. Don’t be a creeper, but everyone in your car should at least get one good look at everyone. Once you’ve seen them, take turns deciding who these people are. Maybe they’re ex-circus performers on the run from the mob. Maybe they’re all sister wives on the way to a wedding. There’s an inappropriate segue that could be had there, but we’re more mature than that, right? Right.  This game is pretty much the same as 20-questions with the added disadvantage that it can go on forever as long as your car trip.  A person picks an item without telling the other person in the car about it. The other person asks “yes” or “no” questions to determine what the object is.  It’s a little more fun if you require the object to be something in your field of vision or an item that you passed by recently. For sanity’s sake, it also helps to make it something that’s remotely guessable.  (I once had a friend pick the letter “S” in a Sacramento sign we had just passed.  This took me six hours to guess, which is both sad and pathetic that we were playing this game that long…).

This is hilarious. My friends play an awesome game on the highway, slightly dangerous but oh well. We get level with a car in the next lane on the highway and then just stare at the driver, the winner is the person who guesses the right amount of time it will take the driver of the other car to react to us just staring at them. Whether it be a smile, weird look or even a turn of the head.

Men sure like their cars. A truly masculine car is one that can traditionally reach an amazing speed, have a cool design that wows girls and provides a trustworthy hobby. But not all men are fascinated by Lamborghinis, Maseratis and Ferraris. Some are more on the classic side, and it’s these ones that will be on the lookout for a old vintage car. Maybe it reminds them of their grandfathers and the time they spent strolling down the street while going to a baseball game. Maybe their dads used to pick them up from school in these unforgettable vehicles. Or maybe they simply like the smell of an old car and they’ve always dreamed of owning a classic vintage car.

The Turbine car was a concept car, which is why only 55 of this impressive model were produced. The design of this superb vehicle was created by the German manufacturer Ghia. In spite of its exterior sleek features, the car had some drawbacks (which could have also been considered qualities), out of which the most relevant ones were an occasional high temperature of the engine and its very powerful sound. In actuality, the noise the engine produced was said to have resembled a vacuum cleaner.

The main models and players of the automotive field were analyzed chronologically, but also considering their importance at a global level. Also, what we did was to inventory the vehicles that ultimately altered history as we know it. From the very beginning to the sixties, the eighties and our days, cars have been part of our existence.

Changes in design, speed, performance attest the rapid changes our universe is undergoing at such a rapid pace. We now see cars evolving from classical to hybrid, to electric and even to completely autonomous. What will follow – nobody knows. However, statistics speak for themselves: cars are here to stay and to make us feel more independent and environment-friendly as ever. So be ready for future cars as all car brands strive to compete against one another.

The Soul is Kia’s most reliable offering, with its score of 4.5 out of five. There is a lot to like about the Soul, so it comes as no surprise that it was the winner of our 2017 Best Compact Car for the Money and Best Compact Car for Families awards. The entire minivan class earns low reliability ratings overall, and the Kia Sedona follows suit, with its score of 2.5.

Lexus takes the crown as the most reliable car brand, according to J.D. Power. There are a total of six vehicles in our rankings that achieve perfect reliability scores, and Lexus is the maker of three of those. The Lexus GS, GS Hybrid, and LS all achieved the top predicted reliability rating. However, the Japanese luxury automaker has one blemish: Its Lexus IS luxury small car received a three, which is still “about average.”

This Mercedes-Benz model is a classic sports car. It’s also a 2-door coupe, which means it’ll work perfectly for taking your girlfriend on a ride. It comes with a 2996 cc engine, responsible for producing over 212 hp. The 300SL also has an interesting history. In the 1950s, when it was launched in the US, it was predicted it would be the race car of the streets, and yet it somehow managed to become a real racecar. It’s true that the manufacturers performed some modifications in order for this to happen, but the 300SL won the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the Eifelrennen, two racing competitions of 1952.

The type of car battery brand you choose is important as some batteries are better than others and there are many different types. There are many different features you want to compare such as the car battery life, amp hours of the car battery, amount of charge left and more. Different cars will require different batteries, so it is important you purchase one that will work for your vehicle. Kirkland Signature The Kirkland Signature is only available at Costco and is an excellent battery for the price. The amp ratings and performance match many of the super premium brand batteries, but at half the price. These batteries are excellent for cold weather and you can feel confident knowing your car will always start, even when the temperature is below freezing. You also get a full refund if the battery should fail, no matter what the cause. EverStart EverStart batteries are available at Walmart and are made by a company that also produces some of the premium brand batteries. These have excellent performance and are very affordable. The amp ratings are perfect for extreme weather and below freezing temperatures. There is no maintenance involved and very easy to use. Need Help Deciding? Click Here for Car Battery Reviews AC Delco AC Delco batteries are one of the best brands. These all pass vigorous quality tests, so you will never have a problem with a battery. The terminals are free of corrosion and the reservoir is quite large, so the charge holds for years. There is no maintenance and there is a limited warranty that will fully replace the battery should something go wrong. The 6 series offers a great punch for your buck, as they are high performance but very affordable. Duralast The same company that makes DieHard and Sears car batteries produces Duralast car batteries. These can be found at AutoZone stores. This battery matches the performance found in the DieHard batteries, so you have 800+ cold cranking amps. This will start most cars in below freezing temperatures. It has a large reserve and is maintenance free. This budget battery offers excellent performance. DieHard DieHard batteries are marketed from Sears and are considered a premium car battery. These are supposed to last forever, and while this may not be quite true, they last much longer than other batteries. They offer a range of car batteries including a heavy duty line, premium line and medium duty car batteries. DieHard also produces battery boosters, battery chargers, and batteries for other non-automotive vehicles. NAPA Car Battery The NAPA performance battery lineup is a decent battery. However, the short 24-month warranty leaves more to be desired, especially at the price. That being said, the battery can handle a wide range of temperatures and comes in many different sizes to fit your particular application. Optima Optima batteries are expensive, but they are known for working in all conditions, orientations, and last a long time, many times longer than the car. They have batteries for SUVS, trucks, and other vehicles besides just a standard car.

Best Car Battery for Value: Unless you have serious audiophile-quality audio equipment in your car/truck or have winches with high power requirements, you most likely won’t need a super-premium battery. However, this does not mean you can skimp on the equipment – quite the contrary. The quality of your car’s battery is essential when it comes to starting your car. Though you may not notice on warm summer days, a bad battery will not be able to provide enough cold cranking amps to start your car in freezing weather. To avoid these issues, it’s important to look at good car batteries even if you’re value shopping. Kirkland Signature Car Battery Among the best value car batteries on the market today are the ones at your local Costco – the ones labeled ‘Kirkland Signature’. The brand may not impress people, but the performance, reliability, and class-leading warranty certainly will. Read Full Review AC Delco 60 Series Car Battery If you must have a name-brand product, this is the way to go. The build quality of the AC Delco 60 Series battery is second to none, and provides premium performance at a bargain price. For this reason, AC Delco batteries are known as some of the best choices in the market. Read Full Review EverStart Car Battery EverStart batteries are exclusive to WalMart, and perform on the level of name-brand batteries sold at premium prices. Whether you live in a warm or cold climate, these maintenance-free batteries will provide reliable performance. These batteries can be found at your local AutoZone store and will give you years of worry-free performance. Car BatteriesCar batteries are essential for auto maintenance. Make sure to get a battery that's right for your car and that works for you. Before buying a car battery, check your car's owner's manual or examine the old battery in your car to make sure you buy the right size and type. Most cars use a 12.6 volt lead-acid battery, but others use different voltages and different electric charge methods. Also, check your car's owner's manual to see whether it specifies a recommended number of cold cranking amps (CCA). A battery's CCA tells you how much power it can deliver when it's 0 degrees Fahrenheit outside. Your battery should meet your car's minimum CCA recommendation, but don't go more than 200 amps above that number.Consider the battery's reserve capacity as well. Reserve capacity is the time in minutes that the battery can deliver 25 amps before dropping below 10.5 volts. The higher the reserve capacity, the better. Finally, consider whether to get a no-maintenance or low-maintenance battery. No-maintenance car batteries never require any maintenance, while low-maintenance batteries require you to replenish the battery water occasionally. At Walmart, you'll find a wide selection of car batteries as well as car battery chargers and accessories, all at Every Day Low Prices.Show more

2 Get to Know the Battery Types Car batteries come in two basic varieties: the more traditional maintenance-free and the more advanced absorbed glass mat. Lead-Acid (Regular) Batteries once required drivers to periodically top off the water in the electrolyte solution, the liquid inside that is the battery’s power source. Modern maintenance-free batteries consume far less water than traditional “flooded cell” ones. Low-maintenance batteries retain their fluid for the life of the battery, and the caps on these models aren’t meant to be removed. A lead-acid battery will generally cost significantly less than an AGM battery. However, it will not hold a charge for as long and is less able to tolerate a deep discharge. Shop Lead-Acid Car Batteries on Amazon Check Our Car Battery Ratings Here Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM)
AGMs are built to better stand up to repeated draining and recharging cycles than standard batteries. They are becoming standard equipment in more cars because modern features such as fuel-saving stop-start systems, electronic safety and convenience features, and power outlets for mobile electronics all increase the demand for power. But AGMs can cost 40 to 100 percent more than highly rated, conventional batteries. Consider one if you sometimes don’t use your vehicle for long periods and the battery loses its charge. An AGM battery can better tolerate a deep discharge, and it is more likely to fully recover if it is accidentally drained. – 2015 Sales: down 1.7% to 64,950 – Canada’s best-selling passenger car for 18 consecutive years is also Canada’s third-best-selling vehicle line overall for a fifth consecutive year. Though Canadian sales of the Civic decreased marginally in 2015, Honda Canada ended the year switching from its ninth-gen Civic into a tenth-gen car, a vehicle the company expects to do very well in 2016 even as Canadian passenger car volume continues to decrease.

I’ve had cars on the brain a lot lately. As part of Ansible’s (IPG’s mobile marketing and technology agency) MDEX global study assessing brand performance and mobile readiness of more than 2,000 brands, we audited 68 Canadian brands, including nine auto brands. Also, I personally just went through the new-car-buying process.

Which-car-is-best momentsCanadians start the process with an open mind: 65% of car buyers entered the market uncertain about what make or model they would buy.2 That means they’re looking for ideas and inspiration, checking YouTube for things like “best 2016 SUVs” and turning to search for the “top 10 cars of 2016.” Car companies need to be present for the crucial initial research phase, when Canadian car buyers have an average of three brands on their shopping lists.2

The wheel, the bike, the automobile—like the great inventions before it, mobile continues to build upon its own potential. As smartphones inform the purchase decisions of billions of consumers worldwide, marketers are working around the clock to find new ways to meet the needs of these always-on customers. One result of consumers becoming increasingly mobile is that they’re now researching and making large purchase decisions on their smartphones, and that’s good news for car companies. Mobile can inspire shoppers to consider your brand, recite safety specs and MPG for all models at the drop of a hat, and even send potential buyers on virtual test drives in their living rooms. These days, a mobile presence can be your brand’s hardest working and most impactful brand ambassador. More and more, Canadian car buyers are using their smartphones for help, and they’re taking action quickly. In our Mobile Search Moments study we found that 39% of auto-related mobile searches that happen in Canada lead to a conversion, and 80% of mobile conversions occur in less than an hour of those intent-based searches.1 These mobile moments offer car brands countless ways to turn inquires into actions. Identifying the micro-moments that drive mobile conversions Mazda Canada knew mobile is one of the best ways to connect with car buyers throughout their purchase journeys, as 37% of its site traffic comes from smartphones and that number tops 50% when tablets are taken into account.

To help consumers looking to make the perfect choice, Mazda revamped its mobile site to make it simple for consumers to compare prices and book test drives anywhere, anytime. The mobile-friendly site navigation allows on-the-go consumers to compare competitors, request a quote, download a brochure, or build and price a vehicle. Mazda also noticed that car buyers are more likely to use their smartphone to book a test drive than car shoppers, so it worked to ensure it is showing relevant ads in top positions at the moment a potential customer may be looking to test drive a Mazda vehicle. Can-I-afford-it momentsAffordability is a major concern for most Canadian car buyers. Consumers want to make sure they’re spending time looking at cars they can afford—so much so that car buyers spend 25% of their time on researching pricing/financing arrangements alone,2 and 32% of auto financing searches happen on mobile.5 Mazda recognized consumers’ needs to compare and validate prices, even seeing that customers compared prices while standing at a Mazda dealership. So its mobile site now includes helpful comparison tools, showing buyers detailed comparisons on things like horsepower, technology, warranties, and certainly, price.

Is-it-right-for-me momentsModern consumers are strapped for time, and the car buying journey seems to get shorter every year. Today, car buyers want to gather and evaluate as much information as possible before heading to the dealership. And they can, thanks to innovative new tools like 360° videos on YouTube. These videos enable brands to give car buyers the “up close and personal” experience they’re looking for before they head to the dealership, and consumers are taking notice. Consumers are also increasingly turning to mobile search to find out all the ins and outs of their potential set of wheels, as demonstrated by the 154% lift in car technology searches we’ve seen on mobile.3 WiFi, for example, is an increasingly popular feature, and search interest for car WiFi is up 70% YoY.4

– 2015 Sales: up 11.8% to 53,727 – It’s important to note that the fourth-ranked Sierra is one of GM’s full-size pickup twins. Together, the Sierra and Silverado combined for 100,134 Canadian sales in 2015, enough to outsell the second-ranked Ram P/U by nearly 9,000 units. The Sierra is the core of the GMC lineup, generating nearly two-thirds of the brand’s sales. Sales of the Sierra were not negatively affected after the arrival of a new midsize GMC offering, the Canyon. Sierra and Silverado sales shot up to record Canadian highs.

Hyundai’s new luxury car brand officially began its Canadian operations today with the launch of Genesis Motors Canada. Around 30 separate dealerships will open in the next five years and Genesis stores will even pop up in shopping malls across the country starting next summer.Genesis aims to stand out from other luxury car companies by surpassing customer expectations through a modern, human-centred purchase and ownership model.Potential customers will be able to schedule a demo and/or road test with a Genesis representative at a time and a place of their choosing. They will also have the opportunity to fill financing documents, make a deposit, and order a new car through the online platform while sitting comfortably at home or at the office. The prices you’ll see not only include freight and delivery charges, but also complimentary maintenance services and navigation software updates for a 5-year/100,000km period. In addition, the Genesis at Home concierge service extends from the purchase process into the ownership period where customers can have their vehicle picked up for scheduled maintenance, left a courtesy vehicle, and returned when complete.“Genesis will bring the brand into customers' lives in a harmonious way, saving them time with simplified, set pricing, fully-equipped models, and the Genesis at Home concierge service for sales and service,” says Michael Ricciuto, Director of Genesis. The Genesis portfolio will first include the G80 midsize luxury sedan and the G90 full-size luxury sedan, which we tested late this summer. – 2015 Sales: down 14.6% to 15,781 – Canada’s top-selling midsize car in 2013 and 2014 lost 8% of its record-setting 2013 volume in 2014 and plunged a further 15% in 2015. The Canadian midsize car market is struggling on the whole, but no car exemplifies that more than this former best-seller, which has lost more than a fifth of its volume over the last two years.

– 2015 Sales: down 15.0% to 34,811 – Many a critic, asked to name the best small car on the market, would cite the Mazda 3. But no critic can’t point to the 3 and say it’s Canada’s best-selling small car. Indeed, the 3 is falling further from the podium. The 15% drop in 2015 is severe. Over the last decade, Canadian sales of the 3 are down 31%. Are all the lost 3 buyers simply moving to the CX-5 and newer CX-3? Many may be, but brand-wide Mazda sales unfortunately still decreased in 2015.

Another option would be to get notified if a car with similar features became available. Given 25 grand to spend on a car that’s fun to drive, what would you buy? Would you take the safe road and get a new car such as a Mazda MX-5 Miata or a Volkswagen GTI, which come with the security of a warranty? Or are you a risk taker willing to go after something special that might be a decade old and have serious wear issues and plenty of miles, maybe a used Acura NSX? It’s a dilemma that will be argued noisily forever, but we’re here to stick our collective necks out in hopes of providing some answers. We’ve gathered nine cars—two are new and seven are used—that can be purchased for about $25,000. The cars were chosen by the staff for a lot of personal reasons, including performance, style, and relative practicality. Several are cars that we have long lusted after but most of us never could have afforded when they were new. Used-car prices fluctuate all over the place, so we relied on the Kelley Blue Book 1993–2007 Used Car and Truck Guide—using the estimated prices for cars in good condition that are sold between private parties—as well as the used-car Web site AutoTrader.com. We don’t own a used-car lot, so we had to borrow cars from owners. We asked the owners to meet us at GingerMan Raceway in South Haven, Michigan, for a free-for-all day of driving. We cycled through the cars, driving both on the racetrack and public roads around it. Since all of the used cars were in varied condition—the 1999 Mercedes E55 AMG we borrowed had almost 200,000 miles on it—we didn’t rate them by our ritual rules that govern comparison tests. In the pages that follow, we recount what the cars felt like and what items buyers should be wary of. We also rate the used cars in three categories—operating costs, curb appeal, and fun to drive. So which one is the most fun? Which one would we buy? That depends on whom you ask. View Photos View Photos 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 Next Page

Affordable sports cars exist for one reason – to offer all of their splendor to those of us that usually can’t afford luxury cars, supercars, or even top tier muscle cars. Japanese roadsters offer superb handling, quick revving and genuinely fun drive, but they aren’t the only ones. Domestic cars can be affordable too, and offer all of this at the same time as well. Heck, even German cars have been known to become affordable if you’re patient enough to wait before buying them. What’s more, all of them can become laughably cheap over time. And while their prices drop considerably, their performance remains more or less intact. You won’t pay much for them and nothing will hold you back for it. You’ll be able to squeeze out the most of them without feeling guilty about forcing them too much. This is why cheap used sports cars can be a fine investment. You can drive them until their their soul leaves their body and move on to the next one. Here are ten such affordable sports cars to choose from. Oh, and only one nameplate per manufacturer to keep things fair. And, no Mazda Miata. It’s getting seriously boring. Not the car’s driving dynamics which are hellishly fun, but its inclusion on every single related list. Consider this the honorable mention.   PreviousNext

10 Best Used Sports Cars – 10 – 2011 BMW 1M Page 1 of 12 10 Best Used Sports Cars – 10 – 2011 BMW 1M The 2011 BMW 1M is the unicorn on our list of the best used sports cars. Also known as the BMW 1 Series M Coupe, this diminutive Bavarian barn burner was only built for a single model year and as a result there are very few examples for sale on the secondary market. Commanding a premium when you can find one, the BMW 1M took the 1 Series platform and injected it with steroids, resulting in a 335 horsepower, 3.0-liter twin-turbo six-cylinder engine under the hood paired with a six-speed manual transmission. Capable of 369 lb-ft of overboosted torque, the 1M also offers an enthusiastic suspension system, unique exterior styling, and big brakes.

10 Best Used Sports Cars – 04 – 2006-2007 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Page 1 of 12 10 Best Used Sports Cars – 04 – 2006-2007 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 The Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is a heavy hitter on the used sports car scene, as it comes with an aluminum frame, a larger and more powerful engine, and a stiffer suspension when compared to the already formidable standard Corvette. The first two years of the C6 generation’s Chevrolet Corvette Z06 production (2006 and 2007) offer the best value for bargain-hunting buyers, with a 505 horsepower, 7.0-liter V-8 engine that also produces 470 lb-ft of torque coming as standard equipment. This exceptionally fast vehicle also features a six-speed manual transmission, upgraded cooling systems, and beefier brakes for the ultimate in track day dominance.

10 Best Used Sports Cars – 08 – 2005-2006 BMW M3 Page 1 of 12 10 Best Used Sports Cars – 08 – 2005-2006 BMW M3 Why are we going back so far to bring you a BMW M3 on our list of the best used sports car? It’s simple, really: the naturally-aspirated straight-six found in the E46 generation BMW M3 was a sweetheart of an engine, and 2005-2006 were the last two years of production for this model. The M3 coupe’s 3.2-liter motor is good for 333 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque, and while an SMG automated manual transmission was available, we recommend sticking with the less-troublesome six-speed manual gearbox that was standard with the car. Like all M3’s, these ones feature quick steering, a reinforced and track-friendly suspension system, and unique styling cues that set it apart from other versions of the BMW 3 Series.

10 Best Used Sports Cars – 03 – 2012 – 2013 Ford Mustang Boss 302 Page 1 of 12 10 Best Used Sports Cars – 03 – 2012 – 2013 Ford Mustang Boss 302 The Ford Mustang Boss 302 is that rare example of a major company keeping its promise to build only a few examples of a highly popular automobile. The Ford Mustang Boss 302 only graced dealer showrooms for the 2012 and 2013 model years, but it left an indelible impression on anyone with the good fortune to have driven the muscle coupe. Much more like a sports car than the standard Mustang GT on which it was based, among other improvements the Boss 302 introduced a track-tuned suspension system, a dramatically-revised 5.0-liter V-8 featuring 444 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque, and a ‘track key’ that activated a secondary engine management system when used (for off-road purposes only, of course). Output is sent to the rear wheels through a Torsen limited-slip differential and a six-speed manual transmission.

What is the Meme Generator? It’s a free online image maker that allows you to add custom resizable text to images. It operates in HTML5 if supported, so your images are created instantly. Most commonly, people use the generator to add text captions to established memes, so technically it’s more of a meme “captioner” than a meme maker. However, you can also upload your own images as templates. How can I customize my meme? You can move and resize the text boxes by dragging them around. If you’re on a mobile device, you may have to first check “enable drag/drop” in the More Options section. You can customize the font color, outline color, and outline width just to the right of where you type your text. You can further customize the font and add additional text boxes in the More Options section. You can rotate your meme, add scumbag hats or other custom images, and draw on your meme using the panel just above the meme preview image. Why is there an “imgflip.com” watermark on my memes? The Imgflip watermark helps other people find where the meme was created, so they can make memes too! However, if you’d really like to, you can remove our watermark from all images you create, as well as remove ads and supercharge your image creation abilities, using Imgflip Pro.

Since he was shown off on the internet, the strange appearance of Graham has helped make him into something of a meme. The picture is being shared widely on the internet – in large part because of his unusual look, rather than as a result of the message that it is intended to show.

In 2016, artist Patricia Piccinini, known for making sculptures of human-animal hybrids, was commissioned by the Australian Transport Accident Commission (TAC) to create a sculpture depicting a human who was built to survive a car crash. On July 18th, the TACVictoria YouTube channel uploaded a video titled “You’ve never met anyone like Graham,” featuring footage of a deformed-looking human sculpture made of fiberglass, silicone and human hair (shown below).

On July 25th, Smosh posted a listicle titled “22 Hilarious Reaction to ‘Graham’ the Car Crash Survivor.” The following day, Tumblr user krudman posted two fan illustrations of the Graham sculpture, accumulating more than 4,900 notes within 24 hours (shown below, middle, right).

Welcome him to your nightmares! Graham is a sculpture that was created that shows the type of body humans would need to survive a car crash. The sculpture was put on display in an Australian library in conjunction with the Accident Commission of Australia. The Daily Mail Tweeted a story about it and the internet WENT OFF! Hey, we all need a break from the horrors of the world, why not focus on another horror. Here’s some of the funniest reactions to poor old Graham. The only time body shaming is acceptable.

There is not enough strength in the neck to stop the head from jolting forward in a crash. The forward motion causes a hyperflexion injury and the backwards motion a hyperextension injury. Simply put, the neck is placed under more pressure than its structure can manage. The added danger is the spinal cord running through the neck. If it is to bend and stretch too much it will break, causing serious injuries like paraplegia or quadriplegia.

Graham was created as part of a new Australian road safety campaign by the Transport Accident Commission (TAC). He was designed by sculptor Patricia Piccinini, a leading trauma surgeon, and a road safety engineer, who modified him based on their own knowledge of traffic accidents. The result isn’t a pretty sight but it’s certainly a sobering one. As you can see, Graham doesn’t have a neck because these snap easily in car accidents. He also has a flat, fleshy face to protect his ears and nose. And if you’re wondering about all those extra nipples, they’re to protect his ribs like a natural set of airbags.
car crash meme 13

Our faces are a delicate mix of bone, muscle and cartilage. Many people injured in car accidents receive fractures to their nose, damaging not only the bone but disrupting sinuses and the delicate parts behind the cheekbone. To combat this, Graham has a rather flat face. His nose is reduced and his ears are protected by the larger structure of his skull and neck
car crash meme 14

When a pedestrian is hit by a car it’s usually when they’re stepping out from a curb. On impact, the immediate problem is that the knee is only built to bend in one direction, so it will almost always break first. Depending on the force of the impact, the tendons can also pull, twist and hyperextend well beyond their intended radius.

Graham is a sculpture of a deformed-looking human designed to survive car crashes, who was unveiled by the Australian Transport Accident Commission in late July 2016. After several photographs of the character circulated online, many internet users created humorous photoshops and image macros mocking the the sculpture’s bizarre and disturbing features.

If you’ve noticed a cavalcade of Mustang Memes floating around the internet these past few days and have no idea why, not to worry as we have the answer. A rash of Mustangs crashing at local car meets in the United States (like this one, and this one or this one) has caused the internet to turn their rage against these drivers who have no regard for everyone’s safety into humor at these unfortunate accidents. Which if you think about it, is actually a brilliant way to deter such shenanigans from actually happening in the first place.
