Affordable sports cars exist for one reason – to offer all of their splendor to those of us that usually can’t afford luxury cars, supercars, or even top tier muscle cars. Japanese roadsters offer superb handling, quick revving and genuinely fun drive, but they aren’t the only ones. Domestic cars can be affordable too, and offer all of this at the same time as well. Heck, even German cars have been known to become affordable if you’re patient enough to wait before buying them. What’s more, all of them can become laughably cheap over time. And while their prices drop considerably, their performance remains more or less intact. You won’t pay much for them and nothing will hold you back for it. You’ll be able to squeeze out the most of them without feeling guilty about forcing them too much. This is why cheap used sports cars can be a fine investment. You can drive them until their their soul leaves their body and move on to the next one. Here are ten such affordable sports cars to choose from. Likewise, narrowing down the list wasn’t easy. Money is subjective, after all, and one person’s cheap car could be someone else’s extravagant dream. So for the purposes of this story, The Drive started by focusing on cars that all can be bought for less than the median new car purchase price in America—roughly $34,000, according to Kelley Blue Book. Then we leveraged our combined decades of journalistic experience to cull that list down to the most entertaining cars.(After all, this isn’t Every Cheap Sports Car of 2017; this is The Best Cheap Sports Cars of 2017.)

More on Sports Cars Sports cars that don’t cost as much as a house tend to come in two primary categories. Small, lightweight sports cars with four-cylinder engines are designed to deliver excellent handling and agility rather than outright speed and power. Muscle cars, on the other hand, are heavier and have more powerful engines. No matter which type of sports car you’re shopping for, you shouldn’t have trouble finding one that delivers thrills without breaking the bank. Back to top

All three Ford Mustang models are rear-wheel-drive, and all come with a manual transmission as standard—though the EcoBoost and GT models also now offer a 10-speed automatic transmission that’s new for the 2018 model year. Those two fast cars also come in both coupe and convertible forms (the Shelby is only available with a solid roof). The 2018 model year upgrades also include a host of new technological features, like a digital 12-inch instrument panel, pedestrian detection technology, and, weirdly enough, a start button that pulses in time with a horse’s heartbeat. Ford Mustang Base Price: $25,185 Chevrolet CamaroChevrolet2017 Chevrolet Camaro SSOnce the subject of jokes for its bloated styling and T-top roof, the Chevy Camaro has grown all the way into one of the best sports cars on the planet. While the 6.2-liter V-8-powered SS making 455 hp and the supercharged V-8-engined ZL1 packing 650 hp have the power to run neck-and-neck with cars costing three times as much, even Camaros with the lesser 335-hp 3.6-liter V-6 or 275-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four are still plenty of fun to drive. And there’s even a 1LE track package available for V-6 and V-8 models that pushes this cheap sports car even closer to supercar territory. Whether coupe or convertible, every new Chevy Camaro comes with a standard six-speed manual gearbox, but you can grab it with an automatic (an eight-speed unit on everything but the ZL1, which gets a new 10-speed transmission) should you desire. And while it may have the soul of a classic muscle car, the Camaro offers plenty of 21st Century tech features, like standard 4G LTE Wi-Fi, standard touchscreen infotainment, and an available head-up display.

The VW GTI may not be the sexiest car on this list, but it strikes a balance between performance and practicality that few, if any, cheap cars can match. A turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four making 210 to 220 hp provides power to the front wheels, while in the rear, this Volkswagen’s boxy shape means the hatchback offers nearly 23 cubic feet of space—far more than any car on this list. And compared to many cheap cars, the GTI—like the Golf it’s based on—is built like a Panzer tank. While the GTI can be specced up with fancy features like leather trim, a power driver’s seat, and touchscreen infotainment, the basic models come with everything you need to extract plenty of driving fun from this cheap sports car. Plus, this fast car’s plaid cloth seats have a style all their own. Volkswagen GTI Base Price: $25,595 Fiat 124 Spider

Technically known as the Mazda MX-5 Miata, this little sports car has been winning over sports car lovers since 1989 with its infectious character. It may rarely be the fastest car in the room, but with its nimble balance, delicate controls, and open roof, it’s one of the best sports cars at any price. The fourth-generation model may pack just 155 hp, but with a curb weight of around 2,400 pounds, that’s more than enough ponies to entertain even the most aggressive driver. While the six-speed manual gearbox is the obvious choice for true roadster fans, the six-speed automatic serves the Miata well enough. Even the base model of this cheap sports car come with LED headlights, Bluetooth, and cruise control; higher-spec versions add on touchscreen infotainment systems, navigation, and automatic climate control. And for 2017, the MX-5 now comes in a sleek retractable hard top version, the Miata RF. Mazda MX-5 Base Price: $24,915 Volkswagen GTI

Tips for Hiring an Accident Lawyer Because of possible situations such as statutes of limitations (which can vary by state), it’s important to hire a personal injury attorney and get the claims process going as quickly as possible; however, you don’t want to hire the first attorney for whom you see a billboard on the highway. Consider these tips as you look for the right accident lawyer. Personal Injury Focus Just as there are many different doctors who focus on many different areas of medicine, there is a wide range of lawyers from which to choose. As you choose your accident lawyer, make sure he or she focuses on personal injury accidents. NOTE: Some states’ State Bar websites have directories of attorneys organized by their areas of practice. Car Accident Experience Not all personal injury attorneys have experience with cases that deal with personal injury caused by a car accident. Some focus more on slip-and-fall accidents, others on work-related injuries, and others still on premise liability cases. Make sure the attorney you choose has represented individuals who’ve suffered personal injuries specifically related to car crashes. Attorney’s Reputation Perhaps nothing spreads reputation more powerfully than word of mouth, and in this day and age you can go beyond just talking to people about their own personal injury attorney experiences to actually researching these attorneys yourself. Simply hop online, search the attorneys’ names, and see what others have to say about him or her. Dedication to Your CaseHere, you’ll want to consider a couple of factors.First, take a look at the attorney’s current caseload. While it’s not impossible for a skilled lawyer to juggle multiple cases at one time (actually, it’s pretty normal), you probably don’t want to put your trust in the hands of an attorney whose focus is spread uncomfortably thin.Second, consider how the attorney treats you and your case. Sure, you probably won’t communicate every day, but does your lawyer regularly update you on your claim’s status? Make him- or herself available to answer your questions? Return your phone calls in a timely fashion?Comfort LevelFinally, evaluate your comfort level with the attorney. You can start gauging your comfort level from the beginning (for example, how do you feel about the attorney’s success rate with car accident cases?) and continue beyond the time you hire him or her.Sometimes, evaluating your comfort level can prevent you from hiring a personal injury attorney who isn’t well suited for your case; other times, it might convince you it’s time to change course with a new attorney.Just remember, you suffered personal injury and monetary loss due to a car crash you believe someone else caused. Use these tips—and trust your gut—as you search for the right accident lawyer.

Make sure that your lawyer takes their fee out of the “net settlement” – that is, the amount left after case expenses are deducted. This arrangement is typical. However, some law firms may try to increase their pay by taking their money out first. Let them know that you won’t accept that, and if it becomes a deal breaker, it’s probably best to find another lawyer.

The general rule is this: The more serious the injuries, the greater the value of hiring a lawyer. If you were in a minor fender bender with little or no injury, you can probably negotiate an acceptable settlement yourself. You would be doing yourself a disservice to pay a lawyer a third of a simple — and almost guaranteed — settlement.

And ever since that fateful night, conspiracy theories have swirled around what really happened. One man who was close to Diana for years is now blaming her security team for not intervening. Advertisement – Continue Reading Below Ken Wharfe, who served as Diana’s royal protection officer for six years, resigned from the position in 1993. He now says if he and his team were working with the Princess in 1997, they may have been able to prevent her death. “On behalf of all the professional men and women of the Met’s protection squad, let me say that neither Rees-Jones nor any of the other bodyguards who attended Diana in the two months preceding her death were from our department,” he writes in an excerpt of his updated memoirs, published by the Daily Mail. “I am still angry beyond words that this team of ‘bodyguards’ let her come to harm.” A photo taken by Jacques Langevin on the night of August 31, 1997 shows Princess Diana (head turned away in backseat), her bodyguard Trevor Rees-Jones (L), and driver Henri Paul shortly before the fatal crash. Getty Rees-Jones was the sole survivor of the crash that killed Diana, Dodi Fayed, and driver Henri Paul. He had been appointed by the Fayed family to protect Diana during their trip to Paris, but Wharfe alleges he was never briefed by police and had a misunderstanding of the paparazzi as an “enemy” he could beat. Plus, because he was hired by the Fayeds, he was prevented from speaking against their wishes. (Diana had declined the Queen’s offer to have round-the-clock police protection, which Wharfe says led to the security issues in the first place.) Advertisement – Continue Reading Below Wharfe alleges that Rees-Jones should have intervened when Fayed made risky decisions, like ordering Paul to drive although he had allegedly been drinking, and letting Fayed tell Paul to drive too fast to outpace photographers. He also says the security team should have called local Paris police for backup, and Rees-Jones should have insisted everyone in the car wear his or her seatbelt. “I can say with certainty, drawing on decades of police experience, that Diana’s death was not murder but a dreadful accident that should have been avoided,” Wharfe wrote. “She was not the victim of shadowy figures who regarded her as an embarrassment to the Establishment, but of her boyfriend’s erratic behavior and her bodyguard’s mistakes.” Princess Diana and Prince Harry in 1995. Getty Rees-Jones, for his part, has said under oath that he has no concrete memories of the car crash that killed Diana, because he suffered a head injury in the collision. According to Sky News, Wharfe’s book also reveals the one rumor that truly hurt Princess Diana: that Prince Harry’s biological father was not Prince Charles. Wharfe says that Diana did have an affair with James Hewitt, the man some rumors claim is Harry’s dad, but they were only an item after Harry was born. “A simple comparison of dates proves it is impossible for Hewitt to be Harry’s father. Only once did I ever discuss it with her, and Diana was in tears about it.” Advertisement – Continue Reading Below

At the airport Hertz pickup location I found that the pickup location they had in the reservation was downtown. I don’t know how that happened. Streetcar FAQs Can I park on the streetcar route? Yes. The City of Kansas City, Missouri, and the KC Streetcar Authority have preserved parking along the streetcar route as per priorities set forth by those adjacent properties. Parking on Main Street was a priority for the properties on the route and the City has recently widened some spaces as a result of public opinion. The parallel space widths were set based on the available width between the face of the curb and the dynamic envelope of the streetcar. Because the rail alignment and the curb lines aren’t parallel throughout the alignment, those widths vary. Widths are more uniform elsewhere in the city, but we have to be flexible to safely accommodate motorists and the streetcar on Main Street. The varied parking widths are an attempt to preserve as much parking for businesses as possible. The alternate approach would be to set an arbitrary parking width requirement and eliminate any areas of parking that did not meet that width. We chose to listen to the businesses and preserve as much parking as we could. How wide are the parking spaces along the streetcar route? Burnout originally featured a small collection of cars, including the small Compact, the Saloon (as well as a sports-modified GT version), the Pickup and the Muscle. This collection grew in Burnout 2 to include cars such as the Oval racer, the Cop Car, the Classic, The Gangster and the Hot Rod. Once Burnout 3: Takedown was released, the original cars were no longer used, with the exception of the Custom Coupe Ultimate, a lime green Coupe that was one of the “Custom” cars in Burnout 2 (this car also reappears in Burnout Legends, Burnout Dominator, and Burnout Paradise (The Paradise version is called the Hydros Techno). The same happened in Burnout Revenge where the car collection was entirely new. For the most part, Burnout Paradise’s car collection is all new but there are some vehicles (such as the aforementioned “Custom Coupe Ultimate” and the Custom Roadster from Burnout 2 or the Revenge Racer from Burnout Revenge) that are models from previous Burnout games. Paradise is also the first Burnout game to designate manufacturers and realistic car model names for its vehicles (such as the “Carson Annihilator” or “Nakamura Ikusa GT”).

Burnout Revenge was released on 13 September 2005 for Xbox and PlayStation 2, and later for the Xbox 360. This game introduced the “traffic check” feature, which made it possible for the player to hit smaller traffic vehicles without crashing and to use them to try to take down rivals. Burnout Dominator was announced on 5 December 2006, only to be released for the PlayStation 2 and the PlayStation Portable and without the inclusion of the crash mode from the previous games. Dominator mainly focuses on the original game’s “Burnout”, which is using up the entire boost meter non-stop and trying to chain boosts as long as possible.

It was not the racing element of the game but the slow motion replays of crashes that show the cars being deformed realistically that brought Burnout to the attention of the public. Criterion picked up on this and introduced a special “Crash Mode” as part of Burnout 2: Point of Impact. In this mode players are instructed to cause as much damage as possible by crashing their vehicle into traffic in a specially designed level featuring “crash junctions”, areas where a large amount of vehicles are passing by (such as a highway). During these events, traffic is constantly the same, utilizing a trial-and-error method to succeed. The mode was excluded from Burnout Paradise due to the arrival of Burnout Crash!. Instead, it is replaced with a “Showtime” mode, which allows the player to crash “anywhere, anytime”. Point of Impact also introduced a Pursuit mode, where the player drives a special police car and must chase down a speeding racer and stop them before the race course ends. This mode was discontinued, but it was featured in Burnout Legends and has reappeared as an available upgrade for purchase in Burnout Paradise known as Cops And Robbers.

There once was a time when small sports cars were the only sports cars, as larger models simply didn’t have the suspensions or balance required to overcome their hefty mass and perform on a race track like a compact, nimble model. Technology has largely erased the performance penalties associated with a hefty curb weight, but small sports cars still hold a place near and dear to the hearts of driving enthusiasts. After all, “adding lightness” has always been a tried, tested, and true way to develop a sensational automobile. Let’s take a quick look at 10 of the best small sports cars available for 2016.

Back to top

The availability of inexpensive performance cars that deliver thrills and fun, at a price that won’t require a second mortgage on your house, has only increased in recent years, with a host of automakers getting in on the action. This page is a compilation of sports cars, roadsters, supercars, race cars, and coupés, both discontinued and still in production. Cars that have sport trims (such as the Honda Civic SI) will be listed under the sport trims section. Production tunes will include cars modified by outside brands and then sold. This does not include in-house brands such as Ford’s Special Vehicle Team, which will be included in the main list. Some vehicles are sold under different brands, therefore some vehicles may be listed more than once but usually link to the same page. Different countries/continents may also classify vehicles differently, example; the Toyota 86 name is known throughout most of the world, but in Europe, its sold as the Toyota GT86, and in the United States and Canada it’s sold under the Scion marque name as the Scion FR-S and the Subaru marque name as the Subaru BRZ.

This is one of the finest sports cars to ever come out of Japan, and one of the greatest Z car ever made. It packed a 3.0-liter V-6 engine with a pair of blowers that pumped out 300 ponies and hit 60 mph in the mid-5-second range. And it handled like a dream, despite a relatively heavy weight, thanks to its innovative high-capacity active-suspension system. Like most Japanese sports cars of this era, it’s hard to find one that’s unmolested by aftermarket modifications. But if you can find a clean one it will offer the same virtues that made these cars popular back in the day: high performance with everyday reliability.

The Miata’s only available engine is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder unit that produces 155 horsepower and 148 lb-ft of torque, which is a slight drop in ponies from the previous year, but an increase in twist helps make up the shortfall. Transmission options are a six-speed manual and a six-speed automatic.

The Mazda MX-5 Miata is a rear-wheel-drive, 2-seat convertible that boasts one of the most enjoyable driving experiences on the road. That’s all due to the fact that the MX-5 Miata is tuned for optimal handling, giving you the power to go around corners at surprisingly quick speeds. And while the MX-5 Miata only offers 167 hp, it’s important to remember that the small car is very light. The power is more than enough to give drivers an enjoyable experience. The best part: The MX-5 Miata offers one of the best values among modern sports cars, with a starting price of just $24,500 with shipping.

The 2016 Nissan 370Z is the latest in a line of sports cars from Nissan that dates back to the days when it was known as Datsun and the 240Z ruled the performance coupe roost. If you are looking to head to the track, then you’ll want to go for the Nissan 370Z NISMO, which comes with additional aerodynamic enhancements, automatic rev-matching when downshifting its six-speed manual transmission (also available with the Sport package), a limited-slip differential, better brakes, and more aggressive tuning for its suspension system. You’ll also see a small bump in power over the base 370Z, which makes do with 332 horses and 270 lb-ft of torque from its 3.7-liter V-6 (the NISMO gets 350 horsepower and 276 lb-ft of torque). A seven-speed automatic is available with any version of the Nissan except the NISMO trim.

A year ago, I went to Car Concepts to get a remote installed into my car so I could warm it and defrost it before having to get in and freeze my tail off. It has been wonderful on these cold winter days to climb into a toasty warm car!!! It also cools in the summer when I start the car and turn on the air conditioning. Shawn, the salesman who sold it to me, took the time to educate me on what would best fit my needs, and he gave me a great price. Installation was quick and I was warm all winter. Being so pleased with my first experience, I went back to inquire about getting a bluetooth and a new radio installed in my car so I could talk on my phone and drive hands-free and be safe and legal. Once again, I found the same great service. And most recently, I’ve gone back to Car Concepts a third time – for window tinting to keep my car cool in the summer (and, I learned, warmer in the winter). The reduction in glare is amazing! I would never go anywhere else for anything my car needs that Car Concepts can provide!!

FANTASTIC customer service and product for great price. I needed a new stereo and CD player for my Ford Lariat truck. My wife and I went to Car Concepts in Salt Lake City, on Main Street. All the employees were personable and very helpful. Alex went through the stereos with us, and we got a great stereo at a very, very reasonable price. Alex went way above and beyond the call of duty. Install went perfectly; in and out in just a few moments. We couldn’t be happier. Playing all of our favorite tunes now. We will be back with all of our other car stereo needs. Thank you, Alex, for being one of the best customer service persons we have ever encountered!

I recently purchased a radio here that I was told was gonna have HD, iPod connectivity, and Blutooth. Before the purchase they said it would have all 3 functions but it didnt, which they told me afterwards. The stereo they sold me lack the HD feature and to purchase the adapter is going to cost another $100 dollars. They blatantly lied and told me all sales are final NO refund after they installed the radio. Save yourself some grief and go somewhere else that gets better reviews.
