The same goes for cars marked “Europe” and “Canada”. Some of the links in the following table may redirect you to a differently named vehicle (for example, the link Chrysler Laser leads to Dodge Daytona), but only because that particular vehicle was rebranded into a Chrysler with insignificant and minor changes to the original design. The Chrysler versions of that vehicle are not notable enough to earn an article.

Chrysler collaborator:Chrysler and Nissan have entered into an extensive deal that goes way beyond the initial plan to sell the Nissan Versa sedan made in Mexico as a Chrysler in South American markets. For 2010, Nissan will produce a small car (B-category, or about the size of a Honda Fit) at its factory in Oppama, Japan. The new car will be styled and sold worldwide as a Chrysler or a Dodge. The American automaker has reportedly stopped the development of the Chrysler version of the Dodge Journey crossover sport-ute in order to concentrate on the upcoming small car. As part of the deal, Nissan will stop making its full-size Titan pickup truck in Canton, Mississippi, and will replace it with a rebadged, slightly restyled Dodge Ram built in Mexico. After production of the Titan ends in 2010, the Mississippi plant will begin building Nissan light-commercial vehicles for the North American market.

Developed during the union of Daimler and Chrysler, the two-seater is based on the Mercedes-Benz R170 platform and shares 80% of its components with the first generation SLK. The second generation SLK was built on a new R171 platform starting in the 2005 model year; the R170 platform was essentially handed down to Chrysler for use in building the Crossfire. Having initially arrived in 2001 as a concept car styled by Eric Stoddard, the Chrysler was further refined by Andrew Dyson before production began in 2003 for 2004 model year sales.
Vehicles built by the Chrysler Corporation are cars bearing the name “Chrysler” rather than one of their subsidiary companies (Dodge, Jeep, and Plymouth for examples). Most Chryslers have been luxury cars, with the exception of their 1970s European models which were developed by the Simca and Rootes divisions.

Chrysler executed the interior and exterior styling. All other elements of the car such as wheelbase, track, engine, transmission, chassis structure, suspension components, are shared with the R170 platform. An example of this is the engine bay of the Crossfire, which is virtually identical to the Mercedes-Benz SLK320 on the R170 platform. The seats from the Mercedes-Benz SLK320 would bolt directly into the Crossfire chassis. The dashboard layout, controls and instruments are also similar to those on the Mercedes-Benz SLK320.
Lotus is in a family way: British sports-car manufacturer Lotus is busy readying its Eagle mid-engine sports car for a potential debut at this fall’s Paris auto show. Not to be confused with the Esprit mid-engine supercar, which reportedly will feature BMW’s new twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V-8 modified to produce upward of 450 horsepower, the Eagle is to be built on an enlarged version of the diminutive Elise’s aluminum architecture that will feature two-plus-two seating. The larger Esprit will remain a two-seater, and it will be built on Lotus’s new architecture, dubbed VVA for Versatile Vehicle Architecture; expect the new Esprit to appear after the Eagle. Like the pint-size Elise, the two-plus-two Eagle will be powered by a Toyota engine. However, the Eagle gets Toyota’s ubiquitous all-aluminum 3.5-liter, DOHC V-6; Lotus tuning likely will use a version putting out some 300 horsepower. The Eagle is expected to go on sale sometime in 2009 with a starting price near $60,000.
The standard transmission is a 6-speed manual with an optional 5-speed automatic. Base (Standard) and Limited models, originally sold beginning in the 2004 model year, are equipped with a Mercedes-Benz 3.2 L, 18-valve, SOHC V6 engine which produces 215 hp (160 kW) and 229 pound force-feet (310 N·m) of torque. SRT-6 models are equipped with a special supercharged version of the engine built by AMG. SRT-6 models came only with the 5-speed automatic transmission, consistent with AMG cars of the same era. The 6-speed transmission used by the Chrysler Crossfire is a variant of the Mercedes sourced NSG-370. The 5-speed automatic transmission in the Crossfire (known as 5G-Tronic) is also Mercedes sourced and a variant of the 722.6 family. The automatic achieves a better EPA fuel efficiency rating over the 6MT, mostly due to the difference in gear ratios.

Both cars are completely stock so a sporty, compact coupe should be able to beat an eight-seater shaped like a toaster in a race, right? The answer isn’t as simple as it might seem. Although not designed for high-speed shenanigans, the Pacifica is equipped with a 3.6-liter V6 engine tuned to produce 287 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. A variant of the surprisingly peppy six-cylinder is also found under the hood of the Jeep Wrangler, among other models. Toyota has made it clear that it won’t turbocharge the 86 in the foreseeable future, so the coupe gets by with a 2.0-liter flat-four engine rated at 205 horsepower and just 156 pound-feet of torque. While it’s much lighter than the Pacifica, power and weight are only part of the story in a drag race. The Pacifica comes with a nine-speed automatic transmission. The 86 ships with a six-speed manual, but the example used in the drag race features the optional six-speed automatic that can be left in drive or shifted manually using steering wheel-mounted paddles. The transmission was the deciding factor, according to Cars.com, and the Pacifica beat the 86 by a comfortable margin. It performed the benchmark 0-to-60-mph sprint in eight seconds flat, and it raced through the quarter-mile in 15.9 seconds. In comparison, the 86 took 8.5 seconds to reach 60 mph from a standstill, and its quarter-mile time checked in at 16.3 seconds. The moral of the story is that the six-speed manual transmission makes the 86 a better performance machine, especially if drag racing is what you’re into. And, think twice the next time you want to challenge a soccer mom to a race at a stoplight. Some of the market’s most unassuming minivans are approaching Golf R levels of horsepower.
